Medical marihuana has been the subject of much debate. Even after hundreds of medical studies the government still chooses to ignore its benefits. Cannibis has been found to be better for chronic pain sufferers than pharmaceuticals. Test subjects who inhaled once; three times a day found a significant pain reductions in just three days.

This comes without the addiction, high cost, and side effects of big pharmacy drugs. This was a study in the Canadian Medical Journal. It’s the first study of its kind where patients were allowed to smoke at home, and monitor their results daily. This type of study is the key to really showcasing the results medical marihuana can have on the body.

Explained Dr. Mark Ware, lead author of the study, Director of Clinical Research at the Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit at MUHC, assistant professor of anesthesia in McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine and neuroscience researcher at the Research Institute of the MUHC.

The subjects tested were affected by pain cause by the nervous system. Though people do not realize it these types of injuries are common, and the treatments are few and far between. Sometimes medical marijuana is the last hope for these types of people. Their only alternative is a life time of pain and suffering if therapy fails them. For post surgical injuries and chronic pain medical marijuana can also be a viable alternative to dangerous prescription drugs.

An entrepreneur in California has developed an entirely new way for medical marijuana to be consumed – via soft drink. California has legalized medical marihuana for medical use, and he sees this product as a thriving market. He originally created a ‘Canna Cola’ that did fairly well. Now he plans to expand his line up and offer other drinks such as a Dr. Pepper like drink, an orange drink, and several other flavors!

While it isn’t really a new concept he hopes to make waves with it. With savy marketing, clever branding, and innovative new flavors. Funnily enough he’s not interested in marijuana or even alcohol himself. He just sees this as a good business move.

Most marijuana related products are covered in pot leaf logos, rainbow colors, and hippy images. He hopes that choosing a cooler branding method can make the drinks more main stream.

Many medical marijuana dispensaries claim they are the same as any other legitimate business, but they aren’t in the eyes of Uncle Sam. As it turns out there is no write off for a dispensary, due to a tax code conflict. Even though many states have legalized the drug for medical usage it is still not accepted on a Federal level.

Even though they are deducting a legitimate business expense. Dispensary owners want the ability to write off things like rent and other things that other business owners use to balance out their tax burden. They claim without it they are actually being taxed on their gross revenue and not their profit.

For that reason the tax code will not allow it as a business deduction. Many businesses got by using a method of segregating their business into sections. Only the assets used for actually dispensing were not tax deductible. Which turns out to only be a small portion of most legally run marijuana shops.

It seems the medical marijuana industry will continue to get the short end of the stick until America wakes up. As many businesses are also engaged in the practice of care giving they tend to use this to their advantage for tax reasons.
